Shed permits in Bonita Springs and Estero

City of Bonita Springs

Community Development, 9220 Bonita Beach Road (239-444-6150), Mon–Fri, with online applications through the city's EnerGov portal. The city, not Lee County, issues permits inside the city limits.
The city's FAQ says permits are required for sheds; no size exemption is listed.
Metal buildings: in the RS, TF, TFC, RM and RPD districts (and the residential parts of an MPD), a building sided in corrugated or galvanized steel or similar that exceeds 240 sq ft or 12 ft in height is prohibited unless approved as a special exception. Our wood-sided styles aren't affected; our metal styles are fine up to 240 sq ft (10x20 and smaller).
Easements: sheds are on the city's list of structures that can't sit in an easement. Check the survey before you pick the spot.
Fees come from the city's schedule; the department quotes them for your job.

Village of Estero

Community Development, 9401 Corkscrew Palms Circle (239-221-5036), Mon–Fri 8–5. The village processes its own residential building permits.
The village's list of work exempt from a permit covers garden trellises under 200 sq ft and 12 ft — sheds are not on it, so plan on a permit. Accessory-structure setbacks apply even to exempt work.
About 45% of Estero is in a special flood hazard area, so expect the flood zone on your site plan and, in a flood zone, an elevation certificate. We can add flood vents at the factory.

New for 2026: Florida's HB 803 (in effect since July 1, 2026) tells cities and counties to exempt single-family homeowners from a building permit for work valued under $7,500 — but the law excludes structural work and any property in a flood hazard area, and the building official decides whether an anchored shed counts as "structural." Ask the permit office whether your shed qualifies before you assume it does. Either way, we send you the engineer plans and the master anchor plan the reviewer wants to see.
