• Collier County Building Plan Review & Inspection — the Immokalee office is at 310 Alachua Street (239-252-5733), Mon–Fri 8–5; the main office is 2800 Horseshoe Drive North, Naples (239-252-2400). Applications go through the county's CityView portal.
• The county's answer to "do I need a permit for a shed?" is yes, for any building or structure. Sheds are filed under the Carport/Shed (PRCP) application: plans signed and sealed where applicable, and a site plan showing the shed, setbacks, flood zone and base flood elevation. If the new impervious area is over 400 sq ft the site plan has to be certified by a surveyor, architect or engineer (or you sign an affidavit instead). Keep the shed at least 5 ft from a septic system. If you act as your own contractor, the county's owner-builder application goes with it.
• Fees (schedule effective January 1, 2026): a $100 minimum application fee; a review fee of $0.11 per sq ft for jobs valued at $5,000 or more (minimum $150); and $110 per inspection.
• Placement (from the county's land development code — confirm for your district): on a non-waterfront lot a utility building sits at least 10 ft from the rear line, meets the same side setback as the house, and stays 10 ft from other structures; on a waterfront lot the side setback is 10 ft. An accessory building can't go up before the house.
• Flood zones (VE, AE, AH, A): a detached accessory building that isn't elevated and is larger than 120 sq ft has to be a Flood Design Class 1 structure with flood openings, and the owner signs a Non-Conversion Agreement that's recorded with the Clerk of Courts. We can add flood vents at the factory.
• Ave Maria: building permits still come from Collier County; the town's architectural standards mean the review board's approval comes first. Bring the style photo, color card and a placement sketch — we'll send all three.
