Shed delivery to Wauchula, Zolfo Springs and Bowling Green

Hardee County is cattle, citrus and room to spare, and hardly any shed dealer bothers with it. We do. Wauchula is about 53 road miles from Port Charlotte. Delivery and setup are free for the first 50 miles and $5 a mile after that, so figure roughly $15 for delivery — text us the address and we'll give you the exact number before you order. Zolfo Springs (about 47 miles) is inside the free zone; Bowling Green (about 60 miles) runs about $50.

On Hardee's acreage the order is usually a metal lofted barn for the equipment, a 12-ft-wide garage, or a 14-ft-wide building — the biggest we sell is 14x40.

Unincorporated Hardee County (Zolfo Springs, Bowling Green, the ranch lots)

• Hardee County Building Department, 401 West Main Street, Wauchula (863-773-3236, building.department@hardeecountyfl.gov), Mon–Thu 8–5 and Fri 8–4. Zoning questions go to Planning & Zoning at 110 S. 9th Avenue (863-767-1964).
• The county's page is blunt: anyone who intends to construct, move or alter a structure "shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit." No size exemption is published, and the county's code says every accessory structure has to meet the Florida Building Code.
• Setbacks: accessory structures at least 7 ft from the rear and side property lines, 5 ft from the house and 5 ft from each other. In the A-1 and F-R agricultural districts an accessory building can go up before the house does.
• Farm buildings: the county code defers to Florida's Right to Farm Act for bona fide farm operations, and nonresidential farm buildings are still subject to the flood-hazard rules.
• Fees: the county's fee schedule is a scanned document; the department quotes fees by phone or email.
• Zolfo Springs sends building permits to the county office above. Bowling Green appears to as well — confirm with City Hall.

City of Wauchula

• Community Development, 126 S. 7th Avenue (863-773-9193) handles the city's zoning sign-off; ask them who issues the building permit for a city address — the city's code refers to the "Development Director or Building Official."
• The city code allows no accessory buildings in front yards; they go in rear or side yards under the district's dimension rules. The application needs a scaled plat showing the setbacks.
