South Shore is four different markets on one exit. Wimauma and Ruskin are farm and acreage lots where a barn belongs; Apollo Beach is canals and HOAs; Sun City Center is a 55+ community with its own restrictive covenants. Under 150 sq ft skips the county building permit. Above it you're into the full permit, so most people who need a permit anyway go bigger:

Anything under 150 sq ft: the 8-ft-wide buildings up to 8x18, plus 10x10, 10x12, 10x14 and 12x12. A 10x16 (160 sq ft) needs the permit with sealed plans, which we send. Setbacks and HOA rules apply either way.
If the Property Appraiser classifies the land as agricultural and the building is a nonresidential farm building, Florida law exempts it from the county building permit. You file an Agricultural Exemption through HillsGovHub; there's no fee unless it's denied, and flood rules still apply.
Check with the community association first — Sun City Center enforces restrictive covenants. Where a shed is allowed, a matching 8x12 or 10x12 under the county's 150 sq ft line is the simplest path.
